Caring for the quality of the indoor air

There are many substances that affect the air quality in a house: pollen, smoke, dust, mites, and odours to name a few. And if we consider that we spend about 20 hours a day indoors, it is important that the quality of the indoor air is as good as possible for our health, especially in 2020 with increasingly worrying amounts of pollution in our towns and cities.

How do we achieve this? The key, according to Sto, is to use air filtration and purification systems to remove particles and possible contaminants, to rely on controlled mechanical ventilation systems that help renew the indoor air, or to use plants. Controlling the temperature

According to the Regulations on Thermal Installations in Buildings, the so-called "thermal comfort" establishes that the temperature must be between 23 and 25 degrees, that humidity must be between 40% and 60%, and that there must be no drafts or gusts of air. To achieve this, Sto reminds us that "the most effective solutions aimed at regulating these characteristics are the use of efficient air conditioning systems, thermal insulation, plaster or laminated plaster boards, a good choice of carpentry or the use of temperature and relative humidity control systems and apparatus".

Controlling noise

In recent times, acoustic comfort has become a key element when renovating or building interior areas, since poor acoustic conditioning can affect the health and well-being of a person, causing sleep disturbance, rest disturbance or headaches.

What are the solutions? Apart from the possible need to install acoustic conditioning solutions in the home (paying special attention to the ceilings), it is also recommended that you use decorative elements to muffle sounds, such as carpets, curtains and upholstered furniture, as well as placing the bedrooms in the quieter areas of the house.
